Australia Expands COVID-19 Vaccine Acceptance List During Disruption – Vax Before Travel

(Vax before the trip)

australia Administration of therapeutic products (TGA) confirmed having evaluated the protection offered by some Vaccines against covid-19. In that initial report, the TGA evaluated six vaccines that have been widely deployed in countries that Australia normally receives international arrivals.

TGA’s initial advice is that the CoronaVac and CoviShield vaccines be considered “recognized vaccines” for incoming international travelers to be considered properly vaccinated.

“Recognition” status does not constitute Australian regulatory approval, as regulatory approval would allow a company to supply this vaccine for administration in Australia.

Four COVID-19 vaccines have received provisional approval in Australia: Comirnaty, Vaxzevria, Spikevax and COVID-19 Vaccine Janssen are also recognized for inbound travelers.

At this point, the TGA has not received sufficient data to conclude on the protection offered by BIBP-CorV (Sinopharm), Covaxin (Bharat Biotech), Sputnik V (Gamaleya Institute) and Convidecia (CanSino).

These vaccines could be recognized in the coming weeks or months as more data becomes available.

“Our recognition decisions will therefore be updated at regular intervals,” says the TGA.

Separately, the US Department of State and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have issued a Level 3 travel advisory for Australia due to the COVID-19 pandemic situation.

The United States Consulate General has received reports of a major demonstration taking place in Australia.

The protest is said to be against mandatory vaccination requirements and the shutdown of the construction industry. Previous protests have at times turned violent, resulting in injuries and police interventions.

The Consulate General of the United States in Melbourne is currently closed for routine in-person consular services. US citizens in need of critical emergency services should contact [email protected] or call (03) 9526-5900.

And, the services provided by the Consulate General of the United States in Sydney continue to be disrupted by ongoing lockdown orders in New South Wales. In accordance with current guidelines, the U.S. Consulate General in Sydney currently only provides emergency services to U.S. citizens. Routine services including US passport, overseas birth consular report, notary public, and visa services are affected. In addition, the United States Consulate General in Sydney will move to new premises shortly, which will affect our ability to provide services.
