“Money won’t buy happiness” is a common saying that many of us have heard in our lifetime. While it’s true that money technically can’t buy you happiness, financial security gives you the opportunity to find true happiness. For Shurland Ayers, getting to a point where he was self-sufficient and financially capable was the first thing he wanted to be ticked off the list before pursuing his passion.
It takes a lot of time and energy to be a successful artist. Having a 9 to 5 job and then coming home to make music works for some people, but it wasn’t the life Shurland Ayers wanted to live. To fund his dreams and be at peace, he started looking for ways to generate his income instead of being dragged into the corporate world. “The ability to own my time was my North Star,” says Ayers, who eventually decided to start trading on the New York Stock Exchange to fund his music career.
Instantly Ayers got hooked. He started researching and trading 20 hours a day and practiced polyphasic sleep cycles. A technique in which he slept 3 hours and then an hour of nap throughout the day. He took three years off to solidify his business strategy, saving him money to invest in personal studio equipment, travel and clothing. “There are 11 areas in the market, so with the extra time of not sleeping I was able to dive into each of the areas to see which were worth exploring,” Ayers says. Being independent and having your own time was absolutely crucial for Ayers. So instead of jumping straight into the music, he spent countless hours creating multiple streams of passive income to complement his life. This strategy eventually got Shurland to the point where he could devote all of his time and energy to making music, and he hasn’t looked back since.
Although it delayed his career for a few years, becoming a day trader was the best decision Shurland Ayers could ever make. His diverse background makes him unique among other artists. With a military background, college education and financial literacy, Ayers is more than meets the eye.
In terms of artistry, having the ability to have creative and quality control over his music to the point where he can create it to his satisfaction is something Ayers is proud of. He is inspired by the impact he has on the fans who listen to his music, as he often writes on topics they can relate to. He also brings a unique touch to the music by adding a blend of Japanese culture, which he learned while spending time there as an interviewer. His unique sound has earned him multiple performances, the most notable being the 300th episode of the FOX backstage pass.
Money may not have made him happy, but it has helped Shurland Ayers take his career to unimaginable levels. Becoming financially free through day trading and creating passive income streams allowed Ayers to spend the time he needed to sprinkle the musical seed in him to become a successful career flower. His musical endeavors are far from over, and we should expect to see a lot of great things from Ayers in the near future.
