Saudi Arabia announces free extension of iqama and return visa


RIYADH: The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has announced that expatriates from no less than 19 countries facing temporary travel restrictions due to the Covid pandemic will benefit from a free extension of the iqama (residence permit) and exit and return visas.

The Director General of Passports (Jawazat) said travelers from these countries could get an extension of the validity of iqama and exit and re-entry visas without paying any fees until March 31.

Turkey, Lebanon, Ethiopia, Afghanistan, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Namibia, Mozambique, Botswana, Lesotho, Eswatini, Malawi, Zambia, Madagascar, Angola , Seychelles, Mauritius, Comoros and Nigeria are among these countries.

The Jawazat said it had started automatically extending the validity of iqama and exit and re-entry visas for expatriates from travel-banned countries who are outside the Kingdom.

He said the extension will be granted automatically in cooperation with the National Information Center without having to personally visit Jawazat departments.

The extension will not be applicable to expatriates who have received a dose of the Covid vaccine in the Kingdom prior to their departure on a re-entry visa.

Saudi authorities will also extend the validity of visit visas issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for people who are outside the Kingdom and who come from countries banned from travel due to the pandemic.
