Any time is a good time to visit Australia, however, the months between spring and autumn are usually your best bet. The weather is slightly milder, spring also brings out the wildflowers in the outback and Canberra and the Victorian Alps are particularly beautiful around this time.
In the summer months between December and February the weather can get uncomfortably hot in Australia. If you are in the southern satates this can make for great beach whether. However up in the north its wet season and extremenl humid. Also be careful of the box jellyfish around tthis period as the seas are swarming with them.
Campervans are a popular alternative for many backpackers. There are several companies that rent fully equipped campervans complete with camping gear. Prices are quite reasonable for longer rentals.
